Who Is George K
I live with my wife of over 50 years just off the Wild Atlantic Way in the North West of Ireland overlooking a bog and surrounded by forestry on three sides of our hectare of land.
Throughout my live I have lived abroad and travelled much, enjoyed many successes and benefitted from many more failures which from my now somewhat withdrawn from the world state I quietly reflect upon and continue to learn from. So it is that whereas in the past my life was very public and active and busy, today my life is very private, quiet and relaxed.
I am no longer driven to become but rather I simply feel compelled to be. To be and accept what I have become, enjoy the life I have led, the moment that is and whatever days that are to come.
Yes indeed there are many things that I can regret in life but there are many more things for which I can be thankful not to mention all those things, those ‘bullets I dodged’, those risks I took (consciously / unconsciously) which would have destroyed me, my marriage, my family, my life.
I have lived a life and now in my ‘golden years’ (silver balding haired days actually!) I have been given the opportunity to consider and assess as to whether I have lived a good life and fulfilled my full potential.
So you see that even in my serene retirement I sit in quiet judgement of myself and my responsibilities to my family, my friends, my local community and of course to the whole Human family.
Thankfully of course, given my age, many inadequacies and circumstances, people don’t expect much from me. More important than this of course is my profound belief that God does not expect much from me. Moreover, and this might appear controversial to many Churchmen and Theologians, I suggest that God does not expect much from any of us, He only expects us to do our best for our best, and only our best, is always good enough for Him.
Now it would pure foolishness and counterproductive for me to directly argue, debate and defend this proposition rather I will attempt to defend its validity, its truth if you will, over time through a series of regular writings, three per week.
- Every Saturday Evening : ‘This Sunday with George’will be a substantial 900 word sermon based upon the Gospel reading of the day.
- Every Tuesday, ‘Just Sayin’ by George K’will be a short X-posting that will meditate / riff upon a commonly-accepted turn of phase or meme and invite readers to critically reconsider their meaning and implications for how they see the world and themselves.
- Every Thursday: ‘For What it is Worth’will present my own musings arising from meditating upon the previous Sunday’s Gospel reading.
Essentially, through this sequence of frequent ongoing communications I would hope that in time you would over time come to the conclusion which I have reached that
- It is not difficult to positively and successfully respond to ‘the Universal Call to Holiness’.
- It is not difficult to become a Saint and
- It is not difficult to consciously live minute by minute in comforting Presence of Christ in our lives: individual lives that have been and are being filled with countless ‘Joys, Hopes, Griefs and Anxieties’.
My Hope is all of this is to provide some small Spiritual Comfort to any and all who come across these writings in their times of trial and tribulation. No one needs to feel alone and abandoned. We are not alone. God and His Community of Saints is always with us.
Talk to Him, Pray with them.
God bless,
George Knight
PS. ‘George Knight’ is a pen name as I feel called to remain an anonymous Christian in my secular ‘Hermitage’.
